The National Strat-O-Matic Hockey League Newsletter League established May 1, 1997 Volume #3, Issue #45 - August 11, 1999 ************************************************************************** Current League Officers: Commissioner: Doug Norris (303-492-3692) Vice-Commissioner: Andy Bartalone Email List Administator: Andy Bartalone Email the whole league: mailto:nshl@otd.com NSHL Chat List: mailto:nshlchat@otd.com League Web Site: http://amath.colorado.edu/math/student/norrisdt/nshl/nshl.html ************************************************************************** PRE-DRAFT RELEASE DATE IS TODAY: You have about six and one-half hours left to release players prior to the draft; after that, you're stuck with 'em. Trades are still allowed up to (and during) the draft; however, you'll still need enough open roster spots (35 total) for the players you wish to draft. There are currently thirteen uncarded players on team rosters (most notably, Pavel Bure in Baltimore), whereas last season, only one player (Seattle's Petr Nedved) was held as uncarded. I don't expect anyone else to release players today, but I will hold the release of rosters until tomorrow morning. Currently, there are 89 forwards, 45 defensemen, and 15 goaltenders eligible for the draft, making a total of 149 players "draftable". ************************************************************************** WHEN IS A TRADE OFFICIAL? An issue came up in the past week that needs to be addressed. I have always understood that a trade became official once both parties have notified the league office (myself and/or Andy). The Review Board handed down a decision that echoes this sentiment, so to make things clear: Trades are official WHEN both parties notify the league office. ************************************************************************** NSHL OVERTIME RULES: On Tuesday of this week, Andy sent a poll regarding our league's handling of the NHL's new overtime format, with a deadline of Friday. However, we have already heard from more than 2/3 of the league members, and a resounding "no" was the decision. Therefore, changing the NSHL's overtime format will be tabled until next spring. ************************************************************************** IMPORTANT LEAGUE DATES: August 11: pre-draft deadline for releasing players. (*) September 11 (noon EDT): 1999 NSHL entry draft. September 12: players allowed to be signed/released from free agent pool. (*) note that transactions are still allowed after August 11, but make sure that you leave enough roster spots (35 max) for the draft. ************************************************************************** NSHL TEAM HISTORIES: Will return soon - I've had to push some things on the back burner in order to get essential (read: Ph.D thesis) things more priority. ************************************************************************** NSHL SONG OF THE WEEK: "Till My Head Fall Off", They Might Be Giants. ************************************************************************** ASSOCIATE LIST: SINCE GP Bill Muller (WJMIIIREP@aol.com) October 1998 0 Thomas Manna (samanna@acsu.buffalo.edu) October 1998 0 Roy Lamphier (lamphier@ibl.org) October 1998 0 Andrew Smith (crimsonace@yahoo.com) March 1999 0 Jason Liddicoat (jjlidder@hotmail.com) March 1999 0 Tim Lewis (PILARLEWIS@aol.com) April 1999 0 If you're still an active associate, and aren't on this list, please get in contact with me.
