Eighteen of the league's twenty-four owners cast a ballot in the 2004-05 ballot results. Zdeno Chara of the Long Island Berserkers also drove home with two trophies, winning the Harvey Trophy in a landslide before grabbing the Jean Beliveau Trophy as postseason most valuable player. Houston's Rob Blake took home the first Orr Trophy as the top defenseman, becoming the fourth Outlaw in five seasons to win the award. The third selection in last fall's entry draft, Michael Ryder of the San Francisco Hedgehogs, put up 42 goals and 106 points in his freshman campaign and dominated the league's Lemieux Trophy voting. Andy Bartalone, who guided the St. Michael's Privateers to a forty-seven point improvement over 2003-04, won his first Blake Trophy in a tight race with Houston's Eric Goodman and Quebec City's Jeff Boutet. Meanwhile, curator of the league files Brian Leahy takes his second consecutive Norris Trophy. Rounding out the awards were Brian Rolston as top defensive forward and Mark Messier as comeback player of the year. The regular season champion Outlaws placed four of its players on the league's postseason all-star teams: 2004-05 NSHL ALL-LEAGUE FIRST TEAM: LW Ilya Kovalchuk, Buffalo C Joe Sakic, Topeka RW Jarome Iginla, Pittsburgh D Rob Blake, Houston D Chris Pronger, Houston G Roberto Luongo, Fort Garry 2004-05 NSHL ALL-LEAGUE SECOND TEAM: LW Patrik Elias, Houston C Mats Sundin, Houston RW Martin St. Louis, San Francisco D Scott Niedermayer, Pittsburgh D Adrian Aucoin, Capital City G Evgeni Nabokov, Topeka Voting totals follow. Remember that all players in the final round of balloting are there through subsequent voting, and that a low total in this final round is nothing to frown upon. Votes are one owner, one vote, except for the all-star team balloting, which gives five points to a first-place vote and three points to a second-place vote.
