The playoffs will begin shortly, with the release of the playoff league file. Congratulations to all sixteen teams who have qualified for the league's "second season", and good luck and best wishes to all. NOTE: Computer-only players can NOT play in the Farley Cup playoffs. Aside from that, players are limited to their actual NHL games played in the playoffs. I will roll an injury chance after each postseason game. NOTE: Please re-read the preceding note. Here are my scientific first-round playoff predictions, based on a random sample of 10,000 simulated series using the Norris Power Index. Enjoy! According to these results, we're going to have some very exciting series! EASTERN CONFERENCE QUARTERFINALS: #8 QUEBEC CITY PATRIOTES vs. #1 ST. Goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff earned fifty-one of those wins! The St. Michael's Privateers eked out the Eastern Conference regular-season title by one point over rival Brooklyn. In the process, the Privateers matched their team record with fifty-three wins, while the Fourteenth set a new club mark with fifty-two. I'll never say that a club has "backed into the playoffs", because what happens at the end of the year is a result of the entire season's body of work. However, the Seattle Sasquatch - who split their final two games - edged out the last spot in the Western Conference over the Nevada Thunder, who lost their final two games. The Sasquatch now get to face the Hawks! A lot of big names are still on the shelf as the Farley Cup playoffs begin, starting with the Hawks' trio of top forwards Pavol Demitra, Eric Lindros and Mike Modano. Modano's injury is listed as day-to-day, but the other two could be out for quite some time. Amongst other stars, Quebec City's Martin Havlat is out with a lower-body injury, and Patriotes fans are hoping for a quick recovery as the club plays top seeded St. Michael's. Other big names who are currently day-to-day include Capital City's Daniel Alfredsson, St. Michael's Jason Smith and the Seattle Rainiers' Alex Tanguay. Minneapolis has balls! Lottery balls, that is. The Massasauga will have the greatest chance at the overall number-one selection. With Evgeni Malkin, Jordan Staal, Peter Stastny, Anze Kopitar and others out there, it's bound to be a great top of the draft. Congratulations to the NSHL's 2006-07 league scoring leader, Ilya Kovalchuk of the Buffalo Bulldogs. Things didn't look good for the Russian, who trailed the Rainiers' Jonathan Cheechoo by three points with one game to play, and North Calgary's star goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff in the opposing net. But Kovy scored a power-play goal and added three helpers to edge out Cheech, 129 points to 128. Wow! Can you believe that seven Western Conference teams topped the 100-point barrier this season? Talk about peer pressure! First-year sensation Alexander Ovechkin of the Brooklyn Fourteenth led the league in goals with seventy-one, while defenseman Tomas Kaberle of Quebec City broke the one hundred assist barrier with 103. Despite the increased offense in the league, Roberto Luongo of the Fiddler Crabs finished with eleven whitewashings. ************************************************************************** WEEK TWENTY-ONE RESULTS: Pittsburgh 1, at Brooklyn 2 BRK Olaf Kolzig - nineteen saves, 2/2 GR BRK Ben Clymer - game-winning goal, takeaway, hit PIT Jarome Iginla - power-play goal, two hits Capital City 3, at Buffalo 1 CCC Marty Turco - twenty-nine saves, 5/5 GR CCC Martin Rucinsky - two goals, takeaway BUF Dion Phaneuf - power-play goal, two takeaways, hit Stone Harbor 1, at Capital City 6 CCC Manny Legace - thirty-four saves, 6/6 GR CCC Markus Naslund - three assists CCC Philippe Boucher - two goals, assist Houston 2, at Corner Creek 3 CGC Daniel Sedin - game-winning goal, assist, takeaway CGC Mike Dunham - thirty-three saves, 3/5 GR HOU Justin Williams - power-play goal, three takeaways Vancouver 2, at Florida 1 VAW Sidney Crosby - power-play goal, assist FLO Ray Emery - thirty saves, 5/6 GR VAW Kari Lehtonen - eighteen saves, 2/2 GR New York 0, at Fort Garry 1 FGF Roberto Luongo - twenty-three saves, shutout, 3/3 GR NYL Ilya Bryzgalov - forty saves, 6/6 GR FGF Joe Thornton - game-winning goal Manayunk 2, at Hampton Roads 4 [played by Doug North] HRH John-Michael Liles - game-winning power-play goal, two assists HRH Jaromir Jagr - three assists, two takeaways HRH Cristobal Huet - twenty-one saves, 4/6 GR Montreal 3, Houston 4 (OT) HOU Shane Doan - two goals, two takeaways, hit HOU Mats Sundin - power-play goal, two assists MON Steven Reinprecht - two goals Minneapolis 4, at Long Island 1 [played by Junu Kim] MIN Antero Niittymaki - thirty-five saves, 5/6 GR MIN Oleg Saprykin - goal, assist MIN Mariusz Czerkawski - game-winning power-play goal Hampton Roads 4, at Lyndonville 3 HRH Cristobal Huet - twenty-nine saves, 10/11 GR HRH Nathan Horton - two goals LYN Fredrik Modin - goal, two takeaways Seattle Rainiers 2, at Manayunk 3 (SO) SEA Jaroslav Spacek - goal, assist, two takeaways, hit MAN Geoff Sanderson - two assists MAN Alexandre Daigle - assist, shootout-deciding goal Quebec City 4, at Minneapolis 2 QCP Steve Bernier - two power-play goals, assist QCP Petr Sykora - two goals QCP Sean Burke - twenty-five saves, 2/3 GR Nevada 0, at Montreal 3 MON Mark Recchi - three goals MON Mikael Tellqvist - thirty-two saves, shutout, 3/3 GR MON Ryan Malone - two assists, takeaway, two hits Corner Creek 4, at Nevada 3 NEV Pavel Datsyuk - goal, two assists CGC Tyler Arnason - game-winning goal, assist NEV Jean-Sebastien Giguere - forty-five saves, 4/5 GR Topeka 2, at New York 3 (SO) NYL Dan Cloutier - twenty-eight saves, 5/7 GR, 3-of-3 in shootout TPK Alex Steen - shorthanded goal, assist TPK John Grahame - thirty-five saves, 2/4 GR, 1-of-2 in shootout Buffalo 5, at North Calgary 4 BUF Miroslav Satan - three goals, two assists, hit BUF Henrik Sedin - power-play goal, three assists, hit, 10/12 faceoffs BUF Ilya Kovalchuk - power-play goal, three assists, hit Florida 0, at Pittsburgh 3 PIT Martin Brodeur - twenty-seven saves, shutout, 5/5 GR PIT Mattias Norstrom - game-winning goal, two hits FLO Nolan Schaefer - thirty-three saves, 5/7 GR Seattle Sasquatch 3, at Quebec City 0 SES Marc-Andre Fleury - twenty-six saves, shutout, 3/3 GR SES Jeff Carter - goal, assist QCP Peter Budaj - thirty-five saves, 4/5 GR Fort Garry 2, at St. Michael's 5 STM Adam Munro - thirty-three saves, 3/3 GR STM Shawn Horcoff - two goals, assist STM Martin St. Louis - goal, two assists Lyndonville 1, at Seattle Rainiers 3 SEA Patrick Marleau - two goals SEA Dwayne Roloson - twenty-three saves, 4/5 GR SEA Brian Rafalski - assist, three hits Long Island 4, at Seattle Sasquatch 2 SES Milan Hejduk - two power-play goals LIB Chris Campoli - goal, takeaway, three hits LIB Zdeno Chara - two assists, hit North Calgary 3, at Stone Harbor 0 SHS Henrik Lundqvist - fifty saves, 8/10 GR NCH Teemu Selanne - game-winning power-play goal, assist NCH Miikka Kiprusoff - eleven saves, shutout, 1/1 GR St. Michael's 7, at Topeka 4 STM Antoine Vermette - two goals, assist STM Brad Richards - shorthanded goal, assist, hit TPK Alex Steen - two goals, takeaway Brooklyn 1, at Vancouver 7 VAW Mike LeClerc - three goals VAW Patrice Bergeron - game-winning power-play goal, three assists VAW Dustin Brown - power-play goal, assist ************************************************************************** LEAGUE LEADERS (FINAL 2006-07): GOALS: BRK Alexander Ovechkin, 71.
