Recall that the "hot streak" requires a goaltender to allow four goals or fewer in each game - in order of game date. So if you already know that your goaltender meets these requirements, then you're free to exceed is fatigue ratings. However...suppose that your goaltender has already played beyond his fatigue rating (he's "hot", after all), and your schedule is as follows: November 15 at North Calgary November 17 vs. Fort Garry You play your home game against Fort Garry with your star goalie, and because you're so eager to start the biweek you do this before hearing of your result against North Calgary. Subsequently, the Hawks pour eight goals past your once-"hot" goalie. Therefore, you played your no-longer-"hot" goalie past his fatigue limit, and are in violation. Please be aware of this, because it is an offense on the same level as overplaying your players (with consequential IP and draft pick penalties). Thanks for reading! ********************************************************************* WEEK THREE/FOUR IN REVIEW: Well, they couldn't keep it up forever. The Brooklyn Fourteenth did not go undefeated for a second consecutive biweek, although they still lead the Eastern Conference with a 13-2-1-0 record. Their four-point conference lead is entirely the result of a home-and-home sweep of the Atlantic-leading Florida Hellcats. All is not perfect for the Fourteenth, however, who will be missing Peter Bondra, John LeClair, and Matt Pettinger for all of Week 5/6 and John Madden and Jarret Stoll for parts of the biweek. All told, the Fourteenth will have lost 53 man-games when this biweek is through. Yikes! Florida has to feel pretty happy with their position, however, leading the Atlantic after finishing seventh in their conference a year ago. It's been a long climb from missing the playoffs in 2004-05, but the Hellcats have adapted to the post-lockout rules changes in the NSHL. Out West, it's the Fort Garry Fiddler Crabs and Seattle Rainiers threatening to run away with things, as the co-conference leaders have seven points on the rest of the field. Unfortunately for them both, one must finish third due to the divisional format. The Norris Power Index gives a modest edge to the Crabs, who have been bolstered by solid play from goaltender Roberto Luongo (12-3, 92.4% save percentage). The tightest race at the top is in the Central, where Capital City holds one-point and two-point leads over Pittsburgh and Hampton Roads. What is the NSHL league record for shorthanded goals in a single game? Well, it's at least three after Trent Hunter's performance on November 4. In Vancouver with the rest of the Long Island club, Hunter not only helped the Berserkers stay perfect on the penalty kill (Vancouver was zero-for-six with the man advantage), he also scored thrice shorthanded. No word on whether or not the Whitecaps will decline future power plays. November 8th saw the venerable Ed Belfour stop 50 of 53 Seattle Sasquatch shots, extending the game to a shootout. Unfortunately for Belfour, the Sasquatch prevailed in the tiebreaker. Six days earlier, Belfour had been outshot badly in an overtime loss to the Sasquatch, stopping 40 shots. Why do you hate me? ********************************************************************* RAINIERS MAKE SILLY DEAL by Doug Norris, Seattle Rainiers owner As the Seattle Rainiers slogged their way to their second Farley Cup championship this past spring, a key turning point was a trade with the Nevada Thunder. Leaving Seattle were 2004 Cup hero Jean-Sebastien Giguere, defenseman Vitaly Vishnevski and prospect Matt Carle, while the Rainiers picked up Dwayne Roloson, Mike Sillinger, Frank Kaberle and Joe Nieuwendyk. Without those four, it's likely that Seattle would have falled before reaching their goal. Well, the clubs reversed a bit of that trade today, with Mike Sillinger headed back to the desert. In return, the Rainiers get back Vishnevski along with Nevada's first-round selection in what is perceived to be a weak 2008 entry draft. Said Seattle GM Norris: "As much as we hate to lose Mike, unfortunately the rules of the league require us to play games with at least six defensemen. We're glad to get Vitaly back because he was always a good fit with our system." The move opens up a checking-line spot for young pivot Stephen Weiss, who had been languishing on the fourth line, and may also signal the return of Nieuwendyk, out all year with back problems. The team did recall Valtteri Filppula from Tacoma, and he will join the team on their road trip in Houston. ********************************************************************* WEEK THREE/FOUR RESULTS: Stone Harbor 0, at Brooklyn 1 SHS Henrik Lundqvist - The Swede scored ten goals (not including his shootout goal against the Sound) and six assists for the Whitecaps, who went 5-2-0-1 to move into the ninth seed in the West. Of course, if the playoffs started now, then we spent a long offseason for just four weeks of hockey.
