You are also free to use a previously-released computer manager - not from the current biweek (even if it's against another opponent) - if you would like. One more time...playing "practice" games with an opponent's real computer manager is strictly forbidden. You should already know why. And with the last-place Massasauga coming to town, the streak surely wouldn't end on that night, would it? Jussi Markkanen felt otherwise, as the Minneapolis goaltender stopped thirty-six Fiddler Crab shots in a 3-0 blanking. Competitive balance has reached the NSHL... Of course, the Crabs took their frustrations out on the Montreal Wanderers, eking out a 10-4 win. Marian Hossa (3g, 4a) and Joe Thornton (g, 6a) each had a seven-point evening, while Ryan Smyth "only" had four goals and an assist. The Crabs lead the league's toughest division - with Vancouver now on a hot streak, every Northwest team is over 0.500. Speaking of winning streaks at home, will the Brooklyn Fourteenth ever lose on their ice? Call Brian Rafalski many things, but please do not call him selfish. Or a goal-scorer, because while the pint-sized blueliner already has 29 assists in 24 league games, he has nary a goal for his efforts. The Buffalo Bulldogs went an impressive 7-1 this biweek to close to within six points of Brooklyn in the East. Martin St. Louis already has four game-winning goals! Divisional matchups for this biweek, as six of your eight games will be against your good friends. Good luck to everyone! ********************************************************************* TIPPETT, AND AEROS, LOOK TO GET IT TOGETHER by Michael Kuduk, Houston owner Aeros' coach Dave Tippett's temper tamtrum earlier got the attention of NSHL brass. The usually calm Tippett, probably due to his exemplary past history, got no reprimand from the league. Tippett did, however, get the attention of his players, who are just now starting to turn things around after a rocky start. "That was so uncharacteristic for me. But after a dozen games of what was essentially loafing, the frustration level was building, and that night, it popped." After Tippett's tirade, the Aeros still looked sluggish, but over the past two weeks, Houston logged 3 wins on home ice, and narrowly missed a fourth. All three home wins were close games on the scoreboard, but the Aeros owned the puck and kept forcing good chances against a series of hot goaltenders. "Shaney (Doan) and Shanny (Shanahan) have really stepped up their play, now to the point where we can play them against the opposition's best line. Simon (Gagne) is starting to contribute, as is Pat (Elias). When Peter (Forsberg) gets healthy, we should be in good shape at center." The Aeros suffered a hiccup against the Empire State Americans, losing 4-3, with defenceman Milan Jurcina scoring the game winner with less than 2 minutes left. "Yeah, that one hurt. We sort of stood there in the first period, and all of a sudden we were down 3-0. The 5 minute high sticking major didn't help. But I give us credit for fighting back and tying the game. Milan got lucky, as Chris (Osgood) was screened pretty badly. That's hockey." The Aeros will need to improve their road record, however, which sports six one-goal losses. "That's not a negative", Tippett added. "Early in the season these were blowouts, and now, with a break or two, they could have gone our way. With a little more hard work, those L's will turn into W's. The country club is over." ********************************************************************* BLUELINE CAROUSEL CONTINUES FOR RAINIERS by Doug Norris, Seattle Rainiers owner Here we go again. With key divisional battles imminent, general manager Doug Norris was hoping to get his regular group of defensemen back. However, not only is Frantisek Kaberle (back) still on the injured reserve, but two more of the Rainier top six will miss time this week. Top defenseman Ed Jovanovski will miss time with a knee injury, while stay-at-home blueliner Nick Boynton will literally stay at home with a troublesome groin. In total, the Rainiers have seen six players miss time on the back end, with Vitaly Vishnevski, Chris Chelios and Jaroslav Spacek all being laid up during the short season so far. Seattle even dealt two-way stalwart Mike Sillinger in order to get back Vishnevski, only to find that the Russian was damaged on arrival. "It's a part of the process that all clubs have to go to in order to succeed," said Norris. "We had a short summer because of the long playoff run, and maybe some of the guys didn't take the conditioning program as seriously as they should have." When asked if he would be more specific, he smirked - "They know who they are". Seattle faces two of their top rivials - Fort Garry and North Calgary - twice over Week 7/8. ********************************************************************* WEEK FIVE/SIX RESULTS: Stone Harbor 1, at Brooklyn 2 BRK Olaf Kolzig - In an ultra-competitive Western Conference, the Sound Chasers are relying on their alternate captain to keep their afloat. And Iginla has not disappointed - after potting ten goals in Week 3/4, he added eight more this week and now has nineteen in nineteen games played. After a five-point game against Vancouver, Iginla scorched the Long Island Berserkers with a hat trick and an assist. Kiprusoff went 6-1 on the biweek, and in each of the six wins, the Finn gave up one Goalie Rating. One per game! Overall, Kipper stopped 34 of 43 Goalie Ratings (79%) and 188 of 203 overall (92.6%).
