Thank you for your patience - a lot of hard figures that had to go into this newsletter, so it was good to wait until I was back to home base to do it. Technically, this newsletter is late, so the Constitution states that all computer managers should be out within thirty-six hours of this publication. Due to the holiday, I'll be a little lenient here, but *please* get them out as soon as you can. Also, don't forget to vote for your 2007-08 All-Stars! ********************************************************************* WEEK NINE/TEN IN REVIEW: Divisional matchups ruled the day in Week 9/10, and in the Northeast, the Brooklyn Fourteenth took advantage - Alexander Ovechkin's club now holds a ten-point lead over the rest of the division while earning points at an 80% pace. The sophomore Ovechkin now leads the entire NSHL in goals (34) and points (71), while goaltender Olaf Kolzig already had seven shutouts. Things are bit more muddled in the Atlantic, with Quebec City holding a slim one-point lead on Florida and the Privateers just three points back. Although we're just a smidge less than halfway through the campaign, the East playoff race is really shaping up! Just seven points separates the seventh-seeded Bullies and the twelfth-seeded Wanderers. Someone break up the North Calgary Hawks! Jason McCorrister's bunch took advantage of slow biweeks from the leaders to close to within five points in the ultra-competitive Northwest. Unbelievably, all six of the division clubs are well over 0.500 and currently hold six of the conference's top seven playoff positions. Capital City is threatening to run away with the Central, earning fourteen of a possible sixteen points in Week 9/10 including a clean sweep of their four road contests. Despite middle-of-the-road goaltending, the Cougars are winning on the strength of Joe Sakic and Daniel Alfredsson. A lot of injuries this biweek, so be careful! Maybe your players can rest on the cross-country flights, since this is a full inter-conference schedule in Week 11/12. Good luck to all! ********************************************************************* 2007-08 ALL-STAR GAME HOST? If you're interested in hosting the 2008 NSHL All-Star Game, please let me know by the end of January 13. ********************************************************************* 2007-08 ALL-STAR GAME NOMINEES (EASTERN CONFERENCE) Ballots are due 10pm MST, Sunday, January 13. Please vote for one player from each position. I've added some conventional statistics for nominated players, as well as some numbers that I keep track of on the side. Each league owner is REQUIRED to vote. Each league associate is encouraged to vote. Please vote! All-star reserves will be selected by each conference's head coach - with two weeks remaining, Jeff Tsuruoka holds a decent lead in the Eastern Conference. And then Norris got the news that he could have lived without - All-Star nominee Ed Jovanovski will miss 4-6 weeks with a torn muscle in his shoulder. "Obviously we're all disappointed because Ed's been fantastic so far this year," said Norris. "We're just hoping that he comes back at full strength - we won't rush this." Jovanovski is the sixth Rainier blueliner to miss time in the first half of 2007-08, with Kaberle, Vitaly Vishnevki, Jaroslav Spacek, Nick Boynton and Chris Chelios also spending time on the sidelines. RAINIERS NOTES: * The club has been "pleasantly surprised" with the development of 2006 first-rounder Wojtek Wolski, who has eight goals and twenty points in his rookie season despite spending the large majority of his time on the fourth line. The club mentioned that they would consider a transaction designed to get Wolski more playing time. ********************************************************************* WEEK NINE/TEN RESULTS: Capital City 4, at Brooklyn 2 CCC Philippe Boucher -
