After their conference semifinal series, however, Topeka fans love them even more. The Scarecrows never trailed in the matchup, but a big performance by Joe Sakic in Game Six brought the Capital City Cougars even at three games apiece. Game Seven was a classic, knotted at one goal apiece until Dominic Moore put away the series winner. Wade Dubielewicz outdueled Jonas Hiller in the battle of the overcarded goalies. Corner Creek almost did it! After knocking off the Northeast Division champion Pittsburgh Hornets, the Green Calves found themselves up on the Atlantic Division champion Privateers by a two-games-to-one margin, with goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin allowing just one goal in Games Two and Three. St. Michael's finally solved the Corner Creek riddle in Game Four, notching fourteen goals in the last three games to pull away, 4 games to 2. The last two Canadian teams in the playoffs met in the Battle of Quebec, with Quebec City and Montreal fighting for provincial supremacy. Unfortunately for CBC, RDS, and Canadian fans everywhere, the fight was a short one, with the Patriotes winning the first two games in Montreal en route to a five-game series win. Trade deadline pickup (and Montreal native) Jean-Sebastien Giguere was solid for Quebec City, recording two shutouts in the win. Nevada just keeps rolling through the conference semifinals, after a six-game fight with the Seattle Sasquatch that featured three games going to overtime. Steve Staios' overtime goal in Game Four swung the momentum in the direction of Nevada, who had a strong series from Bill Guerin. ********************************************************************* CONFERENCE FINAL MATCHUPS: No one told the Nevada Thunder that when you sell at the trade deadline, you're cashing in your chips for the season. After winning their first two playoff rounds of 2009, the Thunder find themselves in Topeka to face the dominant Topeka Scarecrows. If it weren't for the amazing Whitecaps, many more people would have noticed Topeka, who won 52 games en route to the Central Division title. Out East, Quebec City rides its provincial upset of Montreal into a battle with the top-seeded St. Michael's Privateers. Quebec's scorers must find their way past a solid Privateer defense, whose top two defensemen (Duncan Keith and Filip Kuba) lead the playoffs in plus-minus. Can Brian Rolston, Jaromir Jagr and company continue to work their magic? ********************************************************************* TROPHY NOMINEES AND VOTING: (vote for up to three of the
