Very smooth draft today. Please review this and your rosters (which will be sent later today) to ensure that there are no mistakes - if you saw the number of things I'm keeping track of and updating during the draft, you would either be shocked, or you would expect there to be some mistakes. Please ensure that the latter is not the case. Draft results currently being discussed in the Strat-o-Matic Forum! ********************************************************************* MASON, STAMKOS, DOUGHTY GO 1-2-3 IN 2009 ENTRY DRAFT For the second consecutive season, the moribund Minneapolis Massasauga have held the top selection in the league's annual rookie entry draft. And for the second consecutive season, the Massasauga selected the top junior-aged netminder available, taking Steve Mason to pair with last year's pick, Carey Price, at the top of the draft. Mason, Price, Brian Elliott and Jimmy Howard give Minneapolis a youthful 1-2-3-4 punch in goal for a club who gave up the second-most goals in the league last year (300). A surprised Jason McCorrister took Steven Stamkos, the top-rated forward available, to fill his team's ranks in North Calgary. Like Minneapolis, the Hawks drafted into a position of strength - already possessing Jason Spezza and Eric Staal up the middle. Defenseman Drew Doughty (the commissioner likes alliteration) went third overall in Dean Engemoen's first draft back as owner of the Kansas City Scouts. Patrik Berglund went fourth overall to Stone Harbor before Lyndonville selected twice - taking T.J. Oshie and Luke Schenn. The wildcard of the draft - as usual - fell to Buffalo's Tom Vinacci, who took enigmatic winger Nikita Filatov to restock his club's sagging offense. Buffalo had four picks in the top 21, using the remainder on Oscar Moller, Viktor Tikhonov, and Artem Anisimov. Who had the best draft of 2009? We'll know in a few years. ********************************************************************* 2009 WAIVER DRAFT LISTS DUE SEPTEMBER 18th Please submit your waiver draft lists and instructions to me no later than Friday, September 18th. Also let me know if you want to stop choosing players before you have reached 39 rostered players. I'm unavailable to do the waiver draft on the 19th, but will do it on either the 21st or 22nd of September. I would like a volunteer to conduct the waiver draft in parallel with me - so that we can compare results and make sure that we both handled the instructions properly. Junu did this excellently last year, and the job is his if he wants it. I will produce a list of waiver-draft eligible players later today, but it's really just a combination of the originally-published list and the leftover rookie draft players. Chris Malitsky, I have received your waiver draft list. ********************************************************************* ASSOCIATE LIST: SINCE GP Dale Ripley September 11, 2007 28 Francois Lessard December 10, 2006 8 Steve Kramer December 13, 2004 0 Greg Ralls December 14, 2004 0 Andrew Smith November 19, 2005 0 J.J.
