In the interests of speed, I am going to get things rolling again. Enjoy! ********************************************************************* CONFERENCE SEMIFINAL REVIEW: The Farley Cup conference semifinals began with four "clashes of the titans". By the time the smoke cleared, there were four easy winners, and four short series. Commissioner Doug Norris lamented the quick work made by the conference finalists: "It's not as good for the television ratings, but you can't fault the teams that won. They've set the stage for two great matchups going forward, and we're really looking forward to them." Norris had a vested interest in the lackadaisical semifinal performances, also serving as the owner, general manager, and head coach of the Seattle Rainiers. The Rainiers fared the worst in the semifinal round, falling in four straight to Topeka. Mike Smith, the hero of the first round, played injured through the first three games as the Tarantula forwards overwhelmed the Rainier defense. The series was a fait accompli, but Shea Weber saved Seattle a trip back to Kansas with an overtime marker in Game Four. Topeka will face the team everyone expected to reach the conference finals, the Vancouver Whitecaps. Vancouver got the spunky Nevada Thunder in their semifinal matchup, and the seventh-seeded Thunder got the surprise win in Game One as Sergei Fedorov factored in on all five Nevada goals. Suitably enraged, the Whitecaps proceeded to steamroll the Thunder, outscoring Nevada by an 18-6 margin over the last four games. Patrick Sharp was "sharp" indeed, as was netminder Craig Anderson. Out East, the upset of the round was perpretraded by the Montreal Wanderers, who took care of a solid Long Island squad in five games. Only one of the five games was won by the home team in this affair, and the Bersekers dropped all three contests in front of their home crowd. Marek Zidlicky dominated at all ends of the ice in Game Five, contributing three helpers while holding the home team to two goals. Vancouver isn't the only top seed to advance to the conference finals, as East leader St. Michael's sent Lyndonville packing in a five-game affair. Lyndonville's only win came courtesy a Brent Seabrook overtime tally, but the Privateers closed the door on any series comeback attempts with an 11-1 drubbing in the final game. Pavel Datsyuk put up six points in the final game, including four goals, as St. Michael's got its offense rolling on all cylinders. *************************************************************************** DALE'S NEW TEAM: The once-Kansas City Scouts will be relocating to Florida (Dale, which city?), and will be known as the "Gulf Shores Stingrays". Please officially welcome the Stingrays to the league! Dale has done some nice work with the logo - Dale, can you send this to the league? (If not, I can). With Gulf Shores being a natural rival for Florida, and the Pittsburgh Sound Chasers and Hornets being natural rivals, we should consider a minor realignment this offseason. Please submit any plans to me as soon as you can. Thank you! *************************************************************************** 2010 CONFERENCE FINAL SCHEDULE: (EAST) #3 MONTREAL WANDERERS at #1 ST.
